"An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules"
~ 2 Timothy 2:5
So today in church, the sermon was based on 2 Timothy 2:1-something, and this verse caught my attention, because HOW OFTEN DO THEY MENTION SPORTS IN THE BIBLE?? I thought it was really random, considering how much i've been playing sports lately, and how often i have the opportunity to play dirty, and i mostly don't (can't lie- i do play dirty sometimes...not often tho). But yeah, it's just interesting to me that an athlete cannot be "crowned" unless he/she plays by the rules. So in order to win, you must play fair....the true winner is the one who doesn't cheat...and it makes sense, for obvious reasons...but i just thought it was cool and random that the bible said something about it.
hmmm, so i have a bunch of cool quotes from a cd i got for Christmas that was made for me by an awesome friend...
"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent"
~ Victor Hugo
"Words make you think a thought,
music makes you feel a feeling,
a song makes you feel a thought."
~ E.Y. Harburg
"I have my own particular sorrows,
loves, delights; and you have yours.
But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love,
belong to all of us, in all times and in all places.
Music is the only means whereby we feel
these emotions in their universality."
~ H.A. Overstreet
"You are the music while the music lasts."
~ T.S. Elliot
yeah, i really like those. Music truly IS something magical that unites emotions and pulls at your heart, wow.
Okay, so on friday in my philosophy class, Robin did her presentation, and it was on God. I found it really interesting because she looked at it from a non-religious view so that she wouldn't bash anyone's beliefs. Her one point that really got to me was that God creates community. When explaining this point, she mentioned trust. She said that if you believe in God and someone else believes in God, it is easy to trust that person because they believe in the same things that you do. Trust is easy. And i realized why i appreciate and TRUST camp friends so much, and oppositely how i move away from and maintain superficial relationships at school. It's because of the trust, how i trust them and how they trust me. I found this really intriguing.
and to end this hugely long entry... here is part of poem by me
ever so sweet, leaving me confused
thanks mom, advice not used
acoustic guitar, another emo song
bleeding heart, you make the night long

wow....I never thought about it like that. Because I am definitely closer with Christian people that non-Christians which is weird because some of my best friends are non-Christians...but it is just different relationships. And definitely not as deep. It really is a trust thing. Because you know that the Christians really are on the same level with you and won't push you down because they understand and believe in the same things you do. It all just makes sense. Good call.
